Our Story

We are a husband and wife team that turned an idea into reality. Catrice has a love for coffee that is an essential part of her day. While in college she worked as a barista and enjoyed crafting drinks for the customers, she even created off the menu items for the loyal customers. She’s had many dreams of owning her own coffee shop. Although Jay is not a coffee fanatic, he enjoys having a cup with Catrice every morning and supports her dream to the fullest. With the determination, drive, and support of each other and family, we were able to bring this dream to life.

Melanin, to us, is more than a name, more than a color, its simultaneously a way of life mixed with solidarity and ancestry. We want to share our way of life, our culture intermingled with our liquid interests to give people a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Initially come for the cultural curiosity, but return for the consistent sunny customer service and abnormally spectacular coffee.
